General meeting for the shielding of archaeological sites in front of her fire season was held at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, with the participation of the Minister Christos Stylianides, the Minister of Culture and Sports Linas Mendonis, the Deputy Minister of the Interior Stelios Petsas as well as the Deputy Ministers of Environment Giorgos Amyras and Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Evangelos Tournas.

The meeting was held on the basis of her experience shielding of 11 archaeological sites during last year’s fire seasonbut also evidence that emerged from new autopsies carried out by mixed teams of the competent Ministries of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Culture and Environment in the immediate past.

As part of the autopsies, the overall vulnerability of a series of archaeological sites was assessed and the risks of a potential fire event were recorded.

At the meeting it was decided that the Regions and Municipalities accelerate their actions and actions in matters of their competence for fire protection issues.

Also, like last year, the strategic planning for this year’s fire fighting season includes conducting readiness exercises and organized preventive removal population in archaeological sites.

The meeting was also attended by the General Secretaries of Forestry Konstantinos Arabosis, Civil Protection Vassilis Papageorgiou, a number of executives from the above co-competent Ministries, as well as the president of KEDE Dimitris Papastergiou, Regional Governors, Village Deputy Regional Governors and Mayors of areas where there are archaeological sites that welcome a large number visitors during the summer months.
