Priority The Municipality of Athens is giving to the joy of children this Easter. With the aim of ensuring that no child is deprived of an Easter gift, already at the beginning of April, the Social Bookstore of the Citizens’ Mutual Aid Center started a large campaign to distribute Easter items to children of families living below the poverty line and receiving support through the Center’s programs of Reception and Solidarity of the Municipality of Athens (K.Y.A.D.A.).
The distribution is ongoing and gifts for babies, children and teenagers include – but not limited to – stuffed animals, classic and educational toys, board games, books, puzzles, metal cars, bricks and bags.
Volunteers of KYADAA participate in the action, who allocated their time to wrap more than 2,000 gifts – offered by companies and clubs.
Fortified food packages
At the same time, the food packages distributed by the Citizens’ Mutual Aid Hub and the Social Grocery Store are currently enriched with Easter products, in order to meet the needs of vulnerable households for the Easter days.
“And this year, we are practically supporting his families KYADA, trying not to miss anything from their Easter table, but not even the smile of the gift from the children. We thank all the sponsors – clubs and companies – for their decisive contribution to this effort of the municipality, as well as the volunteers of KYADA for their important contribution. All together, we can make a positive difference in the holidays of our fellow citizens who need it”, said in a statement Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis.
Gifts for the homeless
Yesterday Holy Wednesday, Easter gifts were distributed to all the guests of the Multipurpose Homeless Center with beauty products for women and men, which were prepared by the volunteers of K.Y.A.D.A. at the Citizens’ Mutual Aid Hub. The “Love Meal” of Easter at Ruf
A festive table for all the homeless is “laid” on Easter Sunday by the Reception and Solidarity Center of the Municipality of Athens. At the great open meal, which will take place at 12 noon at the facilities of the Roof Indoor Gym, all those hosted in the city’s structures, as well as our fellow citizens who still live on the streets of Athens, have been invited.
The table will be surrounded by a traditional feast, organized by the municipality, accompanied by a live orchestra of the bouzouki soloist, Spyrou Polykandriotis.
The President of KYADA, Melina Daskalaki, emphasized: “We want every citizen and family we support to feel the joy, light and love that surround the Easter celebration. With a big Easter meal, with festive activities and distribution of items, so that young and old can enjoy their festive table and receive a symbolic gift from us, which shows that we are actively by their side every day, and the holiday season is even closer their”.
Festive treats, Easter buns and red eggs, donated by sponsors, will be shared during the event.
Meals in structures and on the road
At the same time, again this year – on M. Saturday – the Municipality of Athens, through KYADA, will distribute festive meals with cooking to all hospitality structures, as well as to people who are on the street, while the same planning also applies to Easter Monday.
It is noted that the organization of the Easter meal is supported by the Organization of Culture, Sports and Youth of the Municipality of Athens (OPANDA), as well as the Directorate of Cleaning and Recycling of the municipality.
