The student said that writing the lyrics was a very beautiful experience, although as he does not hesitate to reveal, it is something he usually does, sending messages in this way to his friends or family as well.
A song about peace, which “carries” through its lyrics, the longing of children for peaceful coexistence of peoples and was written by a student of the 4th grade of the 37th Primary School of Heraklion, is among the hundreds participating in the Student Competition this year Radio Message and Song of the European School Radio, on the theme “The new generation for Peace”.
His lyrics highlight how young children perceive war and how the long-awaited goal of peace should not be anything other than a given for all the children of the world these days.
“The occasion for the creation of the song was the topical discussion of war and peace at the time. At school we talked about the positives of peace and the negatives of war and Michalis Demetzos, a student of D3 of our school, was inspired by this discussion and at the urging of the music teacher Themistocles Kritikou, he wrote the lyrics” the school director told APE-MBE Maria Gaspari.
Michalis Demetzos wrote the lyrics within a week, as the school musician says, and in fact the musician was so excited that he wrote the melody that same afternoon.
“It is important for children to discover their talents and to be able to see them develop in school,” said music teacher Themistocles Kritikos, who accompanies Michalis and his classmates on this song, to APE-MBE which all children feel part of their heart.
The student Michalis Demetzos said that writing the lyrics was a very beautiful experience, although as he does not hesitate to reveal, it is something he usually does, sending messages in this way to his friends or family.
“I’ve written lyrics about my friends, how nice we are together, I’ve written various lyrics and I like it a lot” he says with confidence and the truth is that the lyrics of the song of the one participating in the competition, are moving.
For peace:
“Hope always wins
day and night
again and again
good is ahead of us.
Big wound
but it closes secretly
this enmity
of the world the shadow.
I ask for peace
she is the one i follow
peace is hope and wish
on planet Earth where you and I live.
War is horrible
dark and destructive
an endless death sentence
which does not let hope be seen”.
The song “For peace” by Michalis Demetzou can be voted on until April 20, through the website of the 37th Primary School of Heraklion, but as the Principal of the school says, regardless of the result of any vote, the children have already won.
“The bet of the time is to learn to learn and to be able to use our talents and capabilities. The fact that the children saw this happening to their classmate gave them great joy. They all feel that a part of this song belongs to them and the fact that they became a team for a purpose inspired them” said the school director who, distinguishing from this process what they felt and what the children gained, noted “that seeing the children to be proud of their classmate and his success, is a great request and a life lesson”.
As for Michalis Demetzos, peace in his eyes seems like a big company. “Peace” he says “is being with your friends and having a good time”. As for those who are not your friends… “they too, in some magical way if you give them time, they will be” he says disarmingly and confidently, capturing in a single conversation, the entire message of the lyrics of his song.
