Fraudsters seem to have set up a new “combination” in Evia, who are trying to fill the market with fake 50 euro banknotes.

The young fraudsters appeared on Maundy Thursday in Chalkida and tried to defraud a cafe in the area of ​​Xirovrisis, however the employee who served them realized that it was a fake banknote and immediately notified the “Xenios Zeus” catering-leisure and entertainment shopkeepers union in order to report the incident to the authorities.

While in Evia, a headache for businesses and individuals are electronic scams that aim to extort sums of money from unsuspecting citizens and professionals, shopkeepers seem to have another “trouble”, as they are the main target of fraudsters who dreamed of a market full of fakes banknotes.

Online scams are a scourge

Scam incidents against unsuspecting citizens have reached epidemic proportions, with “hawks” using a variety of tricks in order to gain access to personal data and online bank accounts, thereby extracting large sums of money.

Indicative of the aforementioned phenomenon in Evia, in fact, is the recent trick with the mail from a bank and the information about the supposed blocking of the account, which several citizens received in the last few days.

Scammers pose as bank representatives and send mass emails about an impending account freeze.

The intervention of the Regional Police Directorate of Central Greece was caused by the repeated incidents of online fraud in areas of Evia and beyond.

The authorities advise citizens to be very careful, while a special guide contains general instructions and advice to avoid becoming a victim or to be able to identify the shrewd ones who are deceiving unsuspecting citizens in order to extract money.

Thus, according to the police, citizens are urged not to enter their online banking username and password on websites or forms that open via hyperlinks and not to share their personal passwords (PINs) with other people or credit card verification codes.
