The 34-year-old matricide of Chalcedon was sentenced to pre-trial detention with the agreement of the investigator and the prosecutor after his plea in the Katerini Courthouse.

The 34-year-old, after killing his own mother in Korinos, Pieria, drove 60 kilometers with his dead mother in the next seat, through country roads to end up outside the Halkidona cemeteries where he left the car with the 71-year-old’s body.

In today’s testimony before the investigator, the matricide claimed that he had no intention of killing her, that she asked him to do so and that he tried to convince her.

“That day I tried to convince her. We went to Korinos Pieria. It was the place where we had spent our last happy family moments. On the way back he got a shock. He started squealing. She asked me to kill her. I pressed her that she has to look at life in a different way, she said she can’t take it anymore. He told me go to the beach. We stopped for a few minutes and talked. He told me I can’t stand it. I went to the trunk and got the gun. I told her look at something, she turned around and I shot,” the 34-year-old reportedly argued before the investigator.

Regarding the fact that he had the carbine with him, the 34-year-old allegedly claimed that he did not have the carbine to kill his mother but to kill himself. He even mentioned that after the murder he tried to end his life many times, but without succeeding.

In his statements to journalists, his lawyer, Nikos Petridis, underlined that in his apology the 34-year-old was completely honest and described the tragic situation he was experiencing. With reference to his pre-trial detention, he emphasized that it was done for his self-protection, given that he shows suicidal tendencies and not because he was considered a suspect of committing new crimes.
