There were 39 people on board the aircraft, of which 20 were Greek citizens and their family members – The arrival of the aircraft in Athens is expected this evening.
It was completed with complete success evacuation and rescue operation of 20 Greeks and 19 citizens of foreign countrieswhich took place, today, Thursday, April 27, at Wadi Seidna Air Basenorth of Khartoum in Sudan.
The operation was carried out by officers of the Hellenic Armed Forces, in close cooperation and coordination with the National Operations Center of the Greek Armed Forces and the Crisis Management Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The C-130 is expected to land at Elefsina Air Base, today at 21:00.
The entire evacuation and rescue operation was watched live from the National Operations Center of the Greek Army by the Deputy Minister of National Defense Nikos Hardalias and the leader of the Greek Army General Konstantinos Floros.
With the advent of the C-130, from the military side, the evacuation and rescue operation in Sudan came to an end, as announced by GEETHA.
Head of mission of evacuation and rescue was the Deputy Minister of National Defense Nikos Hardalias. The director of the Directorate of Sub-Saharan African Countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Konstantinos Soulios, also participated in the mission, as well as the deputy commander of the Interbranch Special Operations Command, Brigadier General Charalambos Georgiou, as head of the Special Operations Department from the Special Warfare Command (DEP) of the GEETHA.
Throughout the release operations, the mission was in contact with the National Operations Center of the Greek Ministry of Defense and the Crisis Management Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In the general context of the rescue and rescue mission of Greek and foreign citizens since the beginning of the crisis in Sudan, the following individual operations were also carried out:
– On Sunday, April 23, two Air Force transport aircraft, a C-27 and a C-130, were dispatched from Elefsina Air Base to Aswan Airport, Egypt.
– On Monday, April 24, a C-27 took off from Aswan bound for Djibouti and picked up the first 17 citizens (13 Greeks and 4 other spouses of Greek citizens) and returned on Tuesday, April 25 to Elefsina.
– On Tuesday, April 25, another C-27 took off from Eleusis and landed in Aswan, then picked up 16 Greek citizens, one from Cyprus, 9 from Romania and 8 from Finland from Djibouti and Aqaba, Jordan. On Wednesday, April 26, the aircraft with N. Hardalia and the rescued citizens returned to the Tanagra air base.
– On Wednesday, April 26, a C-27 aircraft took off from Elefsina and landed in Aswan from where it is expected to return to Greece.
