Plevris in SKAI: Another 9,700 positive self tests in students and teachers

by

An additional 9,700 self-tests of students and teachers are positive as announced by the Minister of Health Thanos Plevris speaking to SKAI and the show Today. Of the approximately 9,700, one thousand relate to a teacher and the rest to students.

“We had 15,000 positive self-tests and close to 10,000 today, which means that these people would be circulating in the community and would not know they were sick,” said Mr. Plevris, noting that thanks to the operation of schools, the population is controlled as much as possible. 1.6 million tests have been performed since Sunday.

These positive results of the self tests will be counted as soon as they are confirmed “I guess within the next 2 to 3 days”, said Mr. Plevris.
Referring to Professor Nikos Tzanakis, he estimated that this week and possibly next, the number of cases will be large.

From Monday the fines for the unvaccinated over 60 – No extension

The Minister of Health intervened that no extension will be given and from the first day the fine of 100 euros will be imposed on those over 60 who have not been vaccinated.

He clarified, however, that requests for exemption from vaccination and requests for home vaccinations would have been considered first.

Asked about the possibility of mandatory vaccinations from the age of 50, he answered that the major thing at the moment is that all those over 18 from February 1 will be considered vaccinated if 7 months have passed since the second dose and they have not advanced to the third.

“Window” for the restoration of music – Tomorrow the committee’s suggestion

Mr. Plevris confirmed SKAI’s report that the restoration of music and the increase of capacity in the stadiums are now on the table.

“Initially we are considering all the possibilities,” the minister said, explaining that Omicron’s transmissibility is cyclical and the very restrictive measures do not work. In addition, according to Mr. Plevris, some of the measures were taken based on the festive season “such as music” and may no longer be valid.

He explained that the philosophy of the measures remains, however a de-escalation may exist so that there is no restriction of 1,000 people in sports activities or the situation in the restaurant is more normal.

In any case, the government is waiting for the suggestion of the committee that will meet tomorrow, as the measures expire next Sunday.

What will happen to the unvaccinated health workers

For the health workers, the Minister of Health stated that they are being considered to make their vaccination against Covid mandatory regardless of the course of the pandemic and if it is finally decided “then obviously whoever chooses not to be vaccinated puts himself out of the Health system”.

Unvaccinated are currently suspended until they are vaccinated. Decisions will be made by March 31.

For 3 weeks off duty, Pentelis Children

For the creation of a large vaccination center for children 5 to 11 in Pentelis Children, Mr. Plevris explained that for a period of three weeks he will be out of custody, however “he will work normally for hospitalizations”.

He categorically assured that the Pentelis Children’s Hospital is not closing and added that as soon as the mega vaccine starts operating, they will open appointments for parents who find it difficult to find early vaccination appointments for their children.
