He was arrested police officer who shot and seriously injured a trafficker in Mesti Rodopi, yesterday morning.
The incident happened when the police tried to stop the trafficker. During the operation, a police officer shot, seriously injuring the trafficker.
According announcement of the police, the officers noticed the trafficker’s vehicle and tried to conduct a check, however the driver-trafficker “did not comply at a police stop sign and sped up, making dangerous maneuvers, then stopped the vehicle in a shepherd’s shed in the area and fled on foot with seven other illegal immigrants.”
In the police’s attempt to immobilize the individuals, one of them used his personal weapon by firing shots, seriously injuring the trafficker, who was taken to the Alexandroupolis Hospital.
The seven immigrantswere arrested. Even for the injury of the trafficker’s driver, the involved police officer was arrested, against whom a relevant case file is being filed.
The police statement in detail:
“Today, May 3, 2023 at 04:30 a.m. in a rural area of Rodopi, near the settlement of Mestis, police officers of the Sapa Border Guard Department of the Rodopi Police Directorate spotted an I.X.E. clearly loaded vehicle, which they decided to check on suspicion of transporting illegal aliens. The smuggler driver initially disobeyed a police stop sign and sped off, making dangerous maneuvers, then stopped the vehicle in a shepherd’s shed in the area and fled on foot with seven other illegal immigrants. In the police’s attempt to immobilize the people, during the development of the incident, one of them used his personal weapon by firing shots, as a result of which the trafficker driver was transported seriously injured to the Alexandroupolis Hospital with an ambulance station, while the seven illegals were arrested Immigrants. The relevant Prosecutor’s Office was informed about the incident, which supervises the preliminary investigation, while the police officer involved was arrested for the injury of the trafficker driver, against whom a relevant case file is being filed. A preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Komotini Security Department.”
