In 112,789 traffic checks carried out, from April 30 to May 6, throughout Greece, a total of 24,712 violations were confirmed, according to the data of the Ministry of Citizen Protection. 64% of the offenses related to excessive speed, illegal parking, failure to use a protective helmet, loss of driver’s license and failure to use a seat belt.

In detail, the violations confirmed by region are: 4,251 in Thessaloniki, 4,078 in Attica, 2,658 in Thessaly, 2,218 in Crete, 1,978 in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, 1,785 in Central Macedonia, 1,620 in Western Greece, 1,302 in Epirus, 1,255 in Sterea Greece, 1,062 in the Peloponnese, 714 in the South Aegean, 602 in the Ionian Islands, 596 in the North Aegean and 593 in Western Macedonia.

In particular, the violations confirmed concern: 7,189 for illegal parking, 5,426 for excessive speed, 1,451 for driving without a driver’s license, 981 for not using a seat belt, 783 for not using a protective helmet, 635 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 613 for driving while intoxicated. . . load, 17 for violation of traffic signal, 5 for movement in the left lane, 2 for lack of safety belt, 1 for violation of pedestrian priority in a crossing and 5,350 other violations.

In addition, targeted actions and specialized traffic controls of the Attica Traffic Directorate were carried out on a daily basis throughout the week of May 1 to 7, 2023, in the area of ​​the coastal E.O. Athens-Souni, with the aim of dealing with improvised races, as well as other dangerous violations that lead to traffic accidents, disturb the safety of transportation and the smooth and safe movement of citizens.

A total of 478 traffic checks of drivers and vehicles were carried out, 264 violations were confirmed, for which the corresponding administrative fines were imposed.

In more detail, the offenses confirmed were: 41 for excessive speed, 19 for not wearing a seat belt, 17 for using mobile phones, 13 for not wearing a helmet, 12 for revocation of a driver’s license, 11 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 9 for red light violation, 6 for display of skills, 1 for noise violations and 135 for other violations.

In addition, 26 pairs of number plates, 61 traffic licenses and 94 driving licenses were removed, while 9 vehicles were moved.

As the Ministry of Citizen Protection points out, ELAS attaches particular importance to road safety issues and in this context the controls will continue with undiminished intensity, with the aim of reducing traffic accidents and accidents.
