The ambassador of Greece in Tirana, Konstantina Kamitsi, following the instructions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, is today making a visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Albania.
This morning, the expatriate candidate for mayor of Heimarra Freddy Beleris was temporarily released, who he was arrested at midnight by men of the special forces of the Albanian police with the charge of “buying votes”.
The organizations of the minority, OMONIA and KEAD, reacted strongly to the unprecedented, as they characterize it, attack against the Hellenism of Albania, while the ambassador of Greece in Tirana, Konstantina Kamitsi, following the instructions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, is carrying out today, 12 May, transfer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Albania.
Telephone communication about the arrest of Beleris the Minister of Citizen Protection also had Takis Theodorikakos, with the Albanian Minister of the Interior, Blendar Čuči. Mr. Theodorikakos requested the immediate release of the expatriate and candidate mayor of Heimarra.
Freddy Beleris, president of the local branch of OMONIA, is running in the municipal elections of Himarra, as a mayoral candidate supported by both the Human Rights Union Party (KEAD) and OMONIA, as well as by the opposition coalition led by the Democratic Party of Sali Berisha and the Freedom Party of the former president of the Republic Ilir Meta.
On the way to the ballot box, Freddy Beleris was harshly attacked by a section of the press and also by Prime Minister Edi Rama himself, who a few hours before his arrest allegedly declared to a television station that the day after the elections he would “account personally” together of.
