MeToo-Diki coach: “Amalia is a brave young woman, I will stand by her”, says Bekatorou

Sofia Bekatorou described the first trial of the Greek MeToo that started today as a “landmark” in her statements after the end of today’s procedure before the MOD.

As mentioned by the gold medalist in sailing who will testify in the case of the sexual abuse of an athlete by her coach:

“Today’s trial is very symbolic, I am here to stand in Amalia by all means. She is a very courageous young woman. It is not an easy process, psychologically we go through various ups and downs, however we will need at least two more trials, so we will have to stand strong and face this whole painful process in the best possible way. I hope that Justice will return the sentence to the accused.

I am very excited, I try to stand as I can, you understand that when there is no way to pay someone for the crimes he has committed, it is very difficult for the victim. However, I think that Amalia is our symbol, through her own trial we justify all the other women, but also those people who are victims, who have suffered violence. That is why the outcome of the trial will show whether more victims will come to complain and will not shut their mouths. “Today’s trial is a milestone.”

The young athlete herself in a statement expressed the hope that others will follow the path of reporting violence they have suffered, as she did with the support of Sofia Bekatorou. “It is a painful process, we are still at the beginning but we are a family and we are here to fight it, all together and for all the others who follow and I hope they will follow,” said the sailor.
