In the dock on charges of gun ownership and not keeping weapons of various types, a 52-year-old father from Nea Ionia sat down yesterday, after the discovery of an entire arsenal in his father’s house in Agria.

The police were led to the armory after the video that his 13-year-old son was “uploading” on social media.

The father was convicted to 21 months in prison with the obligation to serve the 3 but the court was convinced by Mr. Bakaliano’s lawyer that the hours for the child who is already undergoing psychological tests in a Thessaloniki Hospital are critical.

“The father according to the doctors should join the sessions and you can impose any restrictive condition you want. We all know from our children that these ages are uncontrollable but the family will be destroyed and a 13-year-old along with it, if the father goes to prison”, he said and it was decided to give him a chance to join a program of sessions to help himself the child.

“It’s sad, I think everything I live is alien”

The mother who testified as a witness and the father as a defendant claimed that in their own house in Nea Ionia, there were two fake weapons that the 13-year-old played with and which they hid because they didn’t want them to be seen. In the case file, however, no fake weapons have been recorded and in court it became known that the defendant was a hunter and had hunted in the past with his father, who had an arsenal in the warehouse of his father’s house in Agria.

It became clear how the 13-year-old had access to weapons and before and after the death of his grandfather who was an avid hunter. Also, the court did not accept, examining the case file, that the 13-year-old’s weapons were fake in the Nea Ionia house. The student also had cartridges at home, the existence of which was also unknown to the parents.

“When the police came to the house and asked me if I had any weapons, I led them to my father’s house in Agria and showed them where my father had them. This proves that I was not aware of what was going on. Everything I live seems alien to me, I’m sorry for everything. I don’t know how he had weapons and cartridges,” said the 52-year-old addressing the court and attributed the limited communication they had as parents with their child to the harsh everyday life that leaves them no room apart from the struggle for survival.

“He’s reactive and doesn’t like to read. We didn’t understand, we hadn’t diagnosed anything else,” said the 52-year-old about his son.

“You lost your child, it would be bad”

The District Attorney suggested the guilt of the 52-year-old and said that the videos show a child shooting with regular weapons. “You created a danger to society as a whole and you took no action. A minor was moving in a dangerous field with weapons and you may have regretted it and I believe you but you are guilty. Gunshots, crossbows, ammo… you have an idea in which framework your child was moving. In a context without control,” he said addressing the accused who kept apologizing.
