Optimism in Israel for the return of Maccabi and Hapoel to Tel Aviv: “It will be approved by 70%”

by

OR Euroleague is meeting today at noon via video conference and one of the most important, if not the most important, topic on the agenda is the possible return of its home games Maccabi and her Hapoel in Tel Avivafter the cease-fire on the war in Gaza.

According to Israeli media, there is great optimism that the return to the country for the two teams will become a reality. “70% will be approved”, said Hapoel circles, while Maccabi are pushing for a decision to be made immediately, even today, although the process is likely to take a few weeks.

The issue it is not expected to be put to a vote by shareholders todaybut Maccabi (and by extension Hapoel) are said to have taken several teams with them, among them the Villerban and the CSKA.

If it is decided to return Israel’s teams to Tel Aviv, it is likely that Maccabi and Hapoel will need to play at another venue in the country for the immediate future, as their common venue, the “Menora Mivtachim Arena” (the well-known “Yad Eliau”), is closed for other events.

It is noted that Tel Aviv has to host a Euroleague match from October 5, 2023, when Maccabi hosted Partizan. Since then the war situation has taken Maccabi to Belgrade and from this year Hapoel play in Sofia for their Euroleague obligations.
