More specifically, from January 1, 2022, the employees of the consular authorities compile and register the registration events that take place abroad, directly in the information system “Citizens’ Register”. This means, as explained in the joint announcement of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Digital Governance, that the hitherto very time-consuming process, which lasted many months, will now be completed directly, without the mediation of other services and in real time. This is, as it is further pointed out, a pioneering project that is another step in the implementation of the government’s commitment to the faster and more efficient service of Greeks abroad, promoting the image of a citizen-friendly state abroad. At the same time, it is emphasized that it contributes significantly to the reduction of bureaucracy and the modernization of the operation of the consular authorities.
The new procedure is regulated by the Joint Decision of the Ministers of State and Digital Government, Kyriakos Pierrakakis and Interior, Maki Voridis and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andreas Katsaniotis (Government Gazette B ‘6090 / 22.12.2021). The specific decision was issued in the framework of the National Program for Simplification of Procedures (EPAD) of the General Secretariat for Digital Governance and Simplification of Procedures.
In a graph attached to a relevant post by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andreas Katsaniotis, the registration of deeds will be done directly by the consular authorities in the Citizens’ Register, with a single visit of the citizen, without postal mail to the special registry office.
