The aim of this ambitious initiative is to identify the location of the rubber vehicles that are at the bottom of the Greek seas and then gradually raise, remove and manage them in an environmentally responsible manner.
With determination and absolute commitment to actions and initiatives throughout Greece that are directly or indirectly related to environmental protection and sustainability, Ford Motor Hellas took an important step in this direction again this year by becoming for the second year in a row the major sponsor and supporter of the important environmental social responsibility initiative “Clean Ocean – Contributing to a more sustainable future”.
With the primary goal of adding another small stone to the common edifice for the protection of the environment and public awareness of issues related to sustainability, the “Clean Ocean – We contribute to a more sustainable future” initiative again put this year at the center of the of its actions a process for the exact location and then the gradual lifting, removal and management of the rubber vehicles that are at the bottom of the seas of our country.
In this context, the second action of the initiative was completed with particular success for 2023 on Friday, May 19, with the cleaning of vehicle tires from the seabed next to the island of Hydrousa, located in Attica, opposite the area of Voula.
The vehicle tires that had already been identified and recorded in the specific sea zone, were recovered from the seabed with the full assistance of a group of certified divers of the Egaleo Special Missions Team and the help of both the Municipality of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni and the Technical Construction Company TEKAL A .E. which provided the necessary floating equipment.
The tires were then cleaned with the contribution of a special fire engine of the EP.OM.EA. and then they were loaded into a Municipality truck, in order to be transported and stored on its premises so that they can be received by a special partner-transporter of ECOELASTIKA and their management can be initiated through a correct and appropriate method, with the application of strict rules and procedures that promote the circular economy and environmental protection.
With the full support of “XTerra Greece – TRIMORE Sports Events” which is the organizer of the whole action, the environmental initiative “Clean Ocean – We contribute to a more sustainable future” also includes the possibility of everyone participating in the effort for cleaner seas, through the creation of a tire positioning software application on the map of Greece. This allows anyone interested (swimmers, bathers, divers, snorkelers, fishermen, etc.) to note in real time the exact position of the tires they find, in all the seas of Greece, so that they can then be removed in an environmentally responsible manner way.
