Police officers of the Organized Crime and Human Trafficking Sub-Directorate of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate arrested a 48-year-old man from Romania, who is accused of human trafficking.

The 48-year-old allegedly pushed his daughter-in-law, his grandchildren and his wife to anniversaries, and then took the money they collected.

The announcement of the General Police Directorate of Thessaloniki states:

Police officers from the Organized Crime and Human Trafficking Sub-Directorate of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate solved a case related to human trafficking.

Specifically, in the context of investigating information received by the above Service from the anti-trafficking hotline (1109) of the “A21” organization, but also from the Department of Social Policy and Gender Equality of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, regarding the labor exploitation of a 21-year-old foreign woman, as and her two minor children, a 48-year-old foreigner was arrested for human trafficking.

From the thorough and detailed investigation by the police officers of the assigned service, it was found that the 48-year-old pushed the 21-year-old to beg in various places in the center of Thessaloniki (who often had her minor children with her), as well as his 49-year-old foreign wife , while all the income from the begging of the above women was managed and exploited by himself.

A case file was filed against the arrested person for violation of Article 323A of the Criminal Code “Trafficking in human beings (and at the expense of minors)” and will be referred to the competent Prosecutor.
