The animal shelter Takis Shelter the president of New Democracy visited on Tuesday, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, as part of his tour of the Lassithi Regional Unit.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis was given a tour of the shelter, which houses over 400 dogs and other stray or sick animals, and was informed about its purpose and operation by its founder and owner, Takis Proestakis.
Mr. Mitsotakis congratulated Takis Proestakis for his work, while he, for his part, noted that the legislative initiatives undertaken by the New Democracy government for the protection and care of animals were very good for the work of the shelter and animal welfare organizations . “You loosed our hands”, he said characteristically. “For the first time it is really being implemented,” answered Kyriakos Mitsotakis, referring to the network of legislative provisions for companion animals.
“Takis Shelter” is an award-winning non-profit organization that aims to rescue and care for stray animals in Ierapetra, Crete. The owner of the shelter, the staff and volunteers, treat the stray animals, sterilize them, take care of them and make them available for adoption, mainly in foreign countries.
