The family drama with the three little brothers, two boys, aged 9 and 7 respectively, and a 5-year-old girl, who, as Cretalive.gr revealed, were left alone and deserted at home for two days by their 33-year-old mother. Shockingly, the youngest boy is a paraplegic and is incapacitated as he is practically bedridden.

The biological father of the three children, who remain hospitalized in the Venizelio Hospital of Heraklion, was notified and traveled urgently from Athens where he lives and works in order to contact them. He claims that he had to communicate with his children for many months as his ex-partner had excluded him from them.

They ran crying into the arms of their biological father

As soon as the two brothers saw their father, at the pediatric clinic of Venizelei where they are being accommodated, they ran into his arms crying, while the little boy who is suffering from paraplegia “burst” at his dad with a big smile. Unfortunately, the biological father also reportedly finds it difficult to take care of them as, as he claims, he works and does not have a relative nearby to raise them.

What the eldest child of the family described about their living conditions while they all lived together, in another city in Greece, is a punch in the stomach. Degenerate situations with constant fights, shouting and poverty.

But even when they moved to Crete, things did not improve. “There were many times when we didn’t have food at home. We didn’t go to school every day. “Mom wouldn’t wake up and I had to feed my brother (the child with paraplegia),” she reportedly confided, according to information from Cretalive.

The boy also refers to the bad behavior of his mother’s new partner. As he describes it, he might not hit them, but he would yell at them and give them punishments. He also mentions that “they often left and went to Heraklion and drank. Mom shouldn’t have done that but I never told her.”

In the incident, for which the mother was arrested and sentenced to two years in prison with a suspended sentence on the serial exposure charge, the boy reportedly described the mother as having been absent since the previous day. When evening came he called her and told her to come home because they were hungry. Despite her assurances that she would go or send someone, the children eventually fell asleep alone and almost fasted. All there was in the house was some fava beans.

The pivotal role of experts in uncovering the drama

The interest and sensitivity of a group of people led to the revelation of the case and the mobilization of an entire mechanism for the care and safety of the three children. And it is one of those cases that deserve many congratulations because despite the daily difficulties, they prove that they love and honor their profession.

The “key” was the paraplegic boy, who is blind and deaf. The mother enrolled the child in a special school in September 2022, but despite the enrollment, he never showed up. The deputy psychologist of the special school decided to contact the mother to see what was going on and check if the child was okay.

So a visit was planned at the beginning of April with the whole “team”: him, the social worker, the director of the special school and a school nurse. Although the appointment was scheduled for 11 in the morning, their mother finally opened at 12 as she slept. They saw the children, the conditions at home and tried to guide the mother to find a wheelchair so that the child could go outside. Finally, although she had initially appeared receptive, a few days later she changed her phone number and “disappeared”.

The same people contacted the school where the eldest boy of the family attended. They were informed that the child was missing a lot of lessons as the mother did not wake up. All efforts to re-locate the mother were in vain. So they decided to visit the family home again, unannounced this time.

The sight they saw was heartbreaking. The mother had been absent since the previous day. The house was a mess. Chairs overturned, blankets on the floor. The child with the health problem was constantly screaming. Neighbors told them that it was not the first time that the mother had left them alone. Many nights he was gone. They were also told that in his attempt to cook, the eldest child nearly set the house on fire.

The mother, as Cretalive wrote, did not understand all this noise and her arrest, arguing that the children were able to take care of themselves. It was also reported that she was stressed because of their move to a better house in Heraklion where they would all live together.
