The master of a ship with 10 Turkish sailors among the crew refused any help when he was told by a Greek rescuer that he was in a Greek search and rescue area and that if he needed help he should request it from the Greek authorities .

This is the cargo ship ANT, which has suffered severe material damage in the middle of its hull after the collision with the cargo ship Potentia.

At this time the ANT accompanied by the Turkish Coast Guard vessel is heading towards the Turkish coast to provide assistance.

However, there were no injuries from the incident among the crews of the two ships, which had a total of 32 people on board.

It is noted that from the first moment of the incident, a large number of port vessels and aerial vehicles arrived at the scene.

In particular, seven patrol vessels of the port, one offshore vessel, while a Navy vessel, a Canadair CL-215 aircraft of the Air Force, three (03) SUPER PUMA helicopters of the Air Force, as well as ships afloat also assisted.

Also, a Turkish Coast Guard vessel had sunk in the above sea area.

The Singapore-flagged ship Potentia with 19 foreign crew members on board and which had departed from Izmir bound for France collided with the stern in the middle of the Vanuatu-flagged ship ANT, which had 13 foreign crew members on board including 10 Turkish nationals.

The particular ship had started from Alexandria, Egypt for Ukraine.

No danger was reported on the deck of the ANT ship, which suffered serious material damage in the middle of its hull, while a Greek rescuer who descended to its deck with the help of a helicopter made it clear to the ship’s master that he was in a Greek search and rescue area and that if he needs help, he should request it from the Greek authorities.

The same was pointed out to the captain of the ANT by the operations chamber of the Ministry of Shipping.

Ultimately the ANT master refused any assistance and accompanied by the Turkish Coast Guard vessel is currently heading towards the Turkish coast to provide assistance.

Up to this moment no request to leave has been made by the crew of the other Potentia ship, while two tugboats have already started from Piraeus and Lavrio in order to help provide assistance.
