Organized criminal activity was discovered by the Property Rights Protection Department of the Attica Security Directorate forging certificates of sports awards and using them for beneficence candidate scoring at National exams as well as for training level upgrade.

A case was filed against -5- nationals, 47, 49, 39, 48 and 53 years old, as the case may be, for forgery after use, obtaining a false certificate as an accomplice, both attempted and committed.

How they worked – The “tariff”

After a long and thorough investigation by the above agency, it emerged that the first three defendants, taking advantage of their position in the martial arts field, approached parents whose minor children attended relevant schools and promised them that for a monetary consideration (3500 to 7000 euros ) the 47-year-old would proceed to draw up falsified match sheets, in which minors would be falsely listed in a privileged ranking position.

Subsequently, corresponding certificates were issued by the Federation, which the parents would receive and then submit to the competent service in order for the minor-athletes to receive a favorable score for the pan-Hellenic exams in which they would participate.

The author of the fake match sheets and the middlemen

As for the roles played by the defendants, the 47-year-old, taking advantage of his position of responsibility in the Federation, compiled the fake match sheets, while the 49-year-old and the 39-year-old, as coach-owners of schools, acted as intermediaries between the parents and the 47-year-old. In addition, the other two defendants (48 and 53 years old), parents of a minor student, submitted a false certificate to the competent agency in order for the minor to receive beneficial points.

As it has been ascertained so far, -18- match sheets have been falsified, which concern -30- students/athletes and -4- coaches who participated as athletes motivated to upgrade their coaching level.

It is noted that in none of the above cases was the intended purpose achieved, as the benefits concern students participating in the pan-Hellenic exams for the 2022-2023 school year, which has not yet been completed.

The case file will be submitted to the Criminal Prosecutor of Athens, while the investigation into their involvement in other cases continues.
