Damages mainly in fruit and vegetables and grains, were recorded by ELGA teams who carried out on-site inspections and autopsies, in order to determine the extent of the disasters after the bad weather on June 2 at Lasithi. In fact, a meeting was held at the town hall in Tzermiadon with the participation of the mayor Yiannis Stefanakis, the director of ELGA Nikos Daskalakis and executives of ELGA, focusing on dealing with the damages.

According to the mayor of the region, an attempt was made from the first moment to activate the procedures for the immediate compensation of the affected producers, farmers and breeders, as he pointed out “the growing season on the Lasithi Plateau is in full swing, resulting in extensive damage due to the of a large amount of water from the strong storms that in a short period of time affected fruit and vegetable crops and grains as well as the livestock sector with a significant reduction in milk production while we are going through the peak period of production”.

In fact, what became known is that the declaration system was opened immediately and the affected producers can declare to the municipality the damage to their crops until Monday, June 19, 2023.
