The most famous sports car will take part in the world’s most iconic endurance race, with the Ford Mustang GT3 taking on the challenge of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June 2024.

The Mustang GT3 racer, which is based on the all-new 2024 Mustang Dark Horse, was unveiled on the world racing stage today on the eve of the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, as part of its 100-year anniversary celebrations. The racing Mustang adopts a bold, colorful new look by Troy Lee, one of the world’s leading motorsport designers. The legendary Mustang GT3 is Lee’s first foray into a Ford racing car.

With this launch, Ford officially introduces the Mustang to the FIA GT3 world class. Ford’s most recent triumph at the 24 Hours of Le Mans was in 2016 with the Ford GT.

“Ford and Le Mans are historically linked. And now we return to the most dramatic, most exciting and most important race in the world,” said Jim Farley, CEO, Ford Motor Company. “It’s no longer Ford versus Ferrari. It’s Ford against everyone. The return to Le Mans marks the start of a global foray into motorsports with the Mustang, just as we are doing with the off-road Bronco and Raptor.”

Fresh identity, new logo

At the same time as the launch, Ford is also unveiling the new, global identity of Ford Performance with a cleaner, simplified look that will now make its presence felt across all of its racing vehicles.

This expressive and exciting new identity will help position Ford Performance as a distinct lifestyle brand with a sporty mindset. The new Ford Performance badge can be more easily integrated into various environments and spaces, such as car paint, merchandise and apparel, display elements, parts and accessories, and advertising.

Continuing relationships with two long-term partners

Ford Performance has expanded its relationship with two of its long-term partners, Multimatic and M-Sport, with this particular project as a reference point. Multimatic, which built the iconic Ford GT, was also involved in the Ford GT racing program and will help build and support the Mustang GT3s, while M-Sport, Ford’s long-time World Rally Championship partner and two-time Championship Team, will assemble the 5.4-liter V8 Coyote engines developed by Ford Performance that power this powerful new Ford pony.

“For a project like the Mustang GT3, we turned to two of our most trusted partners in the motorsports industry to help us build this vehicle and bring the whole program to life,” said Mark Rushbrook, Global Director, Ford Performance. Motorsports. “I know we will all be as excited as Ford fans when the Mustang begins competing at the upper levels of GT racing in 2024.”

The racing Mustang GT3 features a special wishbone suspension, rear-mounted transmission, carbon fiber body panels, and a unique aerodynamic package developed to meet the goals of the GT3 class.
