The number of dangerous violations confirmed by the police in the first five months of 2023 during checks on the road network of the Western Greece region reached 17,316, while in the same period another 4,484 violations were confirmed against drivers of vehicles and two-wheelers, who prevented the free movement of people with disabilities and pedestrians .
In particular, according to the official data of the police, which are presented by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, excessive speed, not using a seat belt while driving a car, the lack of a helmet while driving a two-wheeler, the absence of control by KTEO and the driving a car with worn tires are high on the list of dangerous offences.
At the same time, a large number of violations related to the violation of the red light, dangerous maneuvers while driving and driving in the opposite traffic flow were confirmed.
According to police data, in the five months January – May 2023, 17,316 dangerous violations were confirmed in the three regional units of Western Greece, namely Achaia, Ilia and Aitoloakarnania, of which the most important 12 were the following:
*8,519 for speeding
*2,254 for not wearing a seat belt
*1,289 for not wearing a helmet
*1,285 for non-control KTEO
*795 for driving with worn tires
*781 for a red light violation
*617 for dangerous driving maneuvers
*470 for driving in the opposite traffic flow
*302 for not using child seats
*259 for priority violation
*242 for illegal overtaking
*202 for talking on the mobile phone while driving
The most dangerous violations were recorded in May, where they reached 3,883, and the fewest in February, where 3,137 were confirmed.
Also, in the first five months of 2023, 22,093 breathalyzer tests were carried out and 827 drivers were identified, who were under the influence of alcohol. The most breathalyzer tests were carried out in February, where they amounted to 4,804, while 220 violations were recorded.
In the meantime, in the same period of time, the police confirmed in the region of Western Greece 4,484 violations against drivers, who obstructed, by the way they had parked their cars and their bikes, both the free movement of people with special needs, and of pedestrians.
In fact, 456 of the confirmed violations related to stopping and parking in a place where there is a disabled access ramp and in special parking spaces for disabled vehicles.
Specifically, according to police data, the main violations recorded in the first five months of 2023 in the three regional units of Western Greece were as follows:
*1,898 violations for stopping and parking on sidewalks, squares and special footings intended for pedestrians and bicycle paths
*1,498 violations for stopping and parking at and on sidewalk entrances and exits
*456 violations for stopping and parking in a place where there is a disabled access ramp, in special parking spaces for disabled vehicles and in parking spaces exclusively for a specific disabled vehicle and special parking spaces for disabled vehicles, in outdoor and underground parking lots
*384 violations for stopping and parking on pedestrian crossings and at a distance of less than five meters from them
*53 violations for illegal traffic on pedestrian streets
According to the police data, the most violations were registered in January, where they reached 1,022, and the fewest in May, where 804 were confirmed.
However, apart from the violations of the Road Traffic Code, regarding the free movement of disabled people and pedestrians, the police also carry out continuous checks for noise pollution from cars and two-wheelers.
In particular, according to police data, in the period January – May 2023, 195 violations were confirmed, with most recorded in March.
According to the police, the checks carried out are continuous, while the police intervene immediately when it is found that crossing ramps and disabled parking spaces are inaccessible and occupied, as well as when it is found that the free movement of all pedestrians is obstructed by parked vehicles and bicycles.
