1821 The Greek revolutionaries occupy Vrachori (Agrinio).
1870 The Amstel brewery is founded in Amsterdam. In 1968 it will be acquired by Heineken.
1931 The Panteios School of Political Sciences is founded, with a bequest from Alexandros Pantos.
1965 The alleged communist sabotage of Evros military units is published in newspapers. This is a conspiracy set up and organized by the later dictator George Papadopoulos.
1980 Greece competes for the first time in the final phase of the European Championship in Naples, Italy and loses to the Netherlands 1-0. The goal is scored by Kist with a penalty in the 64th minute.
2002 Italian Antonio Meucci is recognized by Congress as the inventor of the telephone, ending a years-long dispute with Alexander Graham Bell.

1835 Andreas Miaoulis, Greek admiral and politician, commander of the Greek fleet during the Revolution of 1821. His real name was Andreas Vokos. (Born 20/5/1769)
2004 Xenophon Zolotas, Greek economist and academic. He was prime minister during a universal government in the period 1989-1990 and Governor of the Bank of Greece for 19 years. (Born 26/3/1904)
2015 Ornette Coleman, American saxophonist, pioneer of free jazz. (Born 9/3/1930)
