As we are already entering the first days of summer, trips by car to the nearest beaches and of course “cool clothes” with flip flops and a swimsuit are taken for granted.

However, the traffic fines probably won’t be as “cool” for those drivers who choose to drive, unfortunately a common tactic, with flip flops as the Highway Traffic Code points out the risks involved with the choice.

It is noted, however, that there is no clear reference to driving with flip flops or sandals in the K.O.K.

On the other hand, in paragraph 2 of article 13 it is stated that “the driver of each vehicle is required to have complete freedom of movement, in order to perform the necessary maneuvers freely”.

Otherwise, an administrative fine of 100 euros is provided and is accompanied by the on-the-spot withdrawal of the driver’s license for 30 days.

In the event of a check, it is up to the respective traffic officer to judge whether driving with flip-flops restricts the driver’s freedom of movement, and therefore whether a fine should be imposed or not.

Drivers should avoid driving with open shoes, as the chances of being involved in a road accident increase.
