The Municipality of Athens proceeded to impose fines on the KKE – in the amount of 40,800 euros – and in the KKE(m-l) – in the amount of 5,400 euros – for pre-election decontamination in the streets and squares of the city, based on the new municipal cleanliness regulations that are in force from 2022.

It is the second fine imposed by the municipality on the KKE within a week, as the first – amounting to 21,600 euros – was confirmed last Monday for a corresponding violation of the regulation.

This time, the municipality’s services recorded and then removed a total of 136 KKE campaign posters from municipal lighting poles where they had been illegally posted, on Panepistimiou, Stadiou, Akadimia, Piraeus and Patision streets.

Accordingly, 18 pre-election posters of the KKE (m-l) that had been posted on Patision, Agia Lavra, Acharnon and Stratigo Kallaris streets were removed.

The imposition of a monetary fine is included in the cleanliness regulation of the Municipality of Athens, which was approved last year by the municipal council, and based on which the municipal services are obliged to remove illegally placed posters that pollute the city, as well as to impose the corresponding fine for arbitrary pollution.

At the start of the pre-election period last month, the Municipality of Athens had called on all parties taking part in the elections to respect the current regulation. In the cases where a violation had been found, the municipality initially made recommendations to the parties in charge.

Finally, it should be pointed out that since May, the Municipality of Athens has granted – free of charge – public spaces for the use of pre-election booths, as well as 450 canopies at stands for the hanging of pre-election material.
