The Chilean president stressed that 1,002 citizens were forced to move to temporary shelters and that communities in Valparaiso province were affected by water supply interruptions
Two people have died and three others are missing due to floods caused by heavy rains in central Chile, the president announced yesterday Saturday Gabriel Borich.
“Unfortunately, two people died due to falling trees (…), three others are missing,” said Mr. Boric.
The Chilean president added that 1,002 citizens were forced to move to temporary shelters and that communities in Valparaiso province were affected by water supply interruptions.

A firefighter who participated in search and rescue operations is among the missing.
After visiting flood-affected families in the municipality of Talagade, 40 kilometers from the capital Santiago, the president’s services stressed last night that the situation remained “delicate” in four regions south of the capital.
The government has declared a state of disaster in a zone from the Valparaiso district (northwest of the capital) to Biovio, further south, in which resources will be allocated to rebuild infrastructure and housing.
The heavy rains began on Thursday and hit mainly mountainous areas, causing a rise in the water level of rivers, especially the Mapocho and Maipo, which run through Santiago.
