More than 280,000 euros, pounds and jewelry were scrapped by the elderly – The trick with the “traffic”

More than 280,000 euros, pounds and gold, he managed to extract a criminal organization from mainly elderly people, to whom they called and under the pretext that their relatives were involved in a car accident or needed immediate surgery, they deceived them.

Police officers of the Property Rights Protection Department of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate investigated numerous cases of deception of unsuspecting citizens, which took place in October 2021 and arrested, in the center of Thessaloniki, a 60-year-old foreigner. A criminal case was filed against her, as well as three other accomplices, for a criminal organization and for frauds committed in an attempt.

According to the police investigation, the perpetrators, at least from mid-October 2021, joined a group and pretended, either doctors or police officers, to make telephone calls to homes, selecting mainly elderly people as their victims. Using dramatic tones, they sought their surprise and agitation, thus succeeding in bending any of their resistances, in order to extract various sums of money or valuables.

With this method, the perpetrators managed to deceive the elderly in 18 cases in the areas of Thessaloniki, Giannitsa, Kavala and Veria, earning a total amount of 286,400 euros, 49 gold pounds and jewelry worth at least 20,000 euros.

According to the police, the additional expected benefit from the fraud attempts exceeds the amount of 200,000 euros, which the perpetrators were not able to extract, due to the fact that the victims did not have the requested funds in their homes or in their bank accounts.

A search of the 60-year-old’s home in the area of ​​Chalkidona found and confiscated nine mobile phones, 4 sim cards and a sum of money.

The arrested person, with the case file against her, will be taken to the competent Prosecutor.
