The Minister of Shipping, after performing a first autopsy on a passenger ship departing on Thursday morning from the country’s main port, said: “we will work hard to make this travel experience a pleasant experience with safety and security.”
The Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy Miltiadis Varvitsiotis was informed this morning about the situation prevailing in the country’s largest port, Piraeus, in view of the exit for the summer season.
Accompanied by the head of the Coast Guard George Alexandrakis and Coast Guard officials, the new minister visited the first Port Department, while he also inspected the morning departure of the ships from the port of Piraeus.
“Today I came to see the situation in the country’s largest port. One and a half million people were trafficked last year for the summer months from the port of Piraeus and it seems that this year too a similar number can be trafficked again” said Mr. Varvitsiotis in his statements. He added that the goal is the best service of these people, safely and confidently so that they can enjoy their summer holidays but also be able to do their work with speed and efficiency.
The Minister of Shipping thanked the men and women of the port corps for the work they do in helping the smooth running of the coastal shipping routes and in better serving the passengers and visitors of our country.
“We will work hard to make this travel experience for these people an enjoyable one with safety and security,” added the Minister of Shipping.
