Complete it his statement to the public prosecutor of Rhodes the president of the Labor Center of Rhodes, Panagiotis Eglezos, regarding the incident that occurred in the previous days on the island of Rhodes and concerned the working conditions of a beach bar employee.

The president of the Labor Center denounced the incident, where an employee serves customers of the beach bar who are on a platform in the sea, a fact that became known from a video that was released on the internet and caused strong reactions throughout Greece about the working conditions.

For the same issue, as is well known, there was an intervention by the Ministers of Labor, Adonis Georgiadis and of Shipping, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, who gave orders for immediate checks to be carried out by the competent agencies.

In his statements, the president of the Labor Center, after his testimony to the prosecutor, described the incident as unacceptable and asked for corresponding sanctions to protect workers. To the prosecutor also testifiedthe president of the Association of Hotelkeepers Thanasis Stamoulis who criticized the working conditions that prevail in some tourism businesses

The same anyway the workers at the specific beach bar, with a statement they issued point out that “we do not work under ‘medieval conditions’ as said by the media nor are we ‘blackmailed’ or ‘forced’ to do things we do not wish to do in the course of our duties. On the contrary: The beach bar where we work is staffed by young people, most of whom have been working there for many years, we have fun and a willingness to work, there is a friendly atmosphere and a spirit of cooperation for common benefit between us, we take initiatives and share ideas that all together we carry out”.

During their testimony to the public prosecutor, the presidents of the Labor Center and the Hotel Employees union also referred to another incident where a worker was beaten in a tavern on the island by the owner and workers of another business.
