On the “stool” of the appeals court sat the teacher who is accused of the rape as well as the mother of the child who allegedly knew and did not speak – They had been sentenced to 8 years in prison at the first instance
“Buried” for more than ten years the case remained abuse of a minor from her teacher in a village of Trikala until the moment a social worker showed interest and thus began to “unravel” the tangle of a story that arrived today at the Mixed Jury Court of Appeal of Larisa.
In the dock a retired teacher was found accused of sexual acts with a minor as well as the victim’s mother who is accused of complicity in the above act.
We remind you that during the previous trial, the now adult girl testified that when she was a fifth grade student in 2007, was abused by the defendant inside a primary school classroom. The abuse, according to the girl, continued at the defendant’s house for the next two years, until she went to high school.
About these incidents, the then-minor girl spoke to her family, including her mother, but as testified today by the girl’s grandmother, aunt and sister, they decided not to follow up. She was “shame” according to the aunt’s statement who discouraged them from telling the police about the incident.
Thirteen years later however, the case comes to light when the girl’s sister he confesses to a social worker what happened in the past. The occasion was the intervention of the social services for her own children, who would be transferred to an institution in Athens.
On the journey back from the capital he was with the social worker when at one point he says: “my mother is to blame for everything… when she was taking us to the teacher”. These words “triggered” her interest social worker who asked the girl what she meant. This is how she found out about the case and with her assistance they went to the Trikala Prosecutor’s Office in 2020 where they reported the incident.
The social worker testified these facts in court today, deceiving the court’s question that the girl’s words came out as a “complaint” about the fact that she “lost” her own children.
Finally the two defendants were brought to justice 15 years after the incidentwith the court of first instance finding them guilty and sentencing both to 8 years in prison.
Yesterday, during the hearing, colleagues of the defendant and his wife also testified as defense witnesses, with the court adjourning for Friday, July 7.
