The incident with the horse that fell dead on the pavement in Corfu is only the tip of the iceberg of continuous abuse of equines in the country
The torturous death of the horse in Corfu, which breathed its last from a collision on the pavement with the mercury hitting “red”, is only the tip of the iceberg of constant abuse of equines in the country.
Last September, video released by SKAI on the main news shows a carriage crossing a flooded road in Lefkada, with the horse trying to pull the heavy carriage with great difficulty so that the tourists can enjoy their ride.
Last February, a horse’s owner left it pastured for days without water and food, causing the rope to cut its leg. Also, video taken last May shows a horse owner abusing it by hitting it on the head at an equestrian club.
At the same time, a video released from the incident in Corfu shows the coachman threatening passers-by who show interest in the unfortunate horse that got cold while he shows his indifference to the animal. It is recalled that the deputy prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Anastasia Masoura, immediately intervened for this specific incident, while a case file has already been filed for the deplorable conditions of violation of the welfare conditions of the unfortunate animal.
In addition to the prosecutor’s investigation which is in full progress, the unconscious owner of the animal was imposed the prescribed fine of 30 thousand euros, while the prosecutor’s investigation is expected to extend to the conditions under which the owner in question has other horses that he uses for this the purpose.
