Announcement regarding the pursuit that took place today, Saturday outside Larissa and resulted in a 20-year-old man being shot dead by a police officer, the Greek Police issued.

In her statement she states that: “The vehicle in question was being sought as it had been stolen today from the area of ​​Galatsi, Attica, and therefore the police issued a stop sign so that a relevant check could be carried out. In order to escape, the driver developed further speed, exited the National Road and moved on the provincial road to Moschohori, at the entrance of which he lost control of the vehicle, crashed into the wall of a house and stopped.”

According to EL.AS. the driver got out of the vehicle and ran away however one of the officers, under circumstances that are being investigated, used a weapon resulting in the person being injured in the ribs. An ambulance was called to the scene, but despite resuscitation efforts, the person died.

As it turned out, this is a 20-year-old Syrian citizen, who was convicted of a felony and recently released on parole for trafficking in illegal immigrants, while at the end of June this year he was arrested again for vehicle theft and drug possession.

The Police announcement in detail

Today, July 8, at 11:40, he was spotted by AT police officers. A lorry vehicle, in which only the driver was on board and was moving at high speed on the National Road at the Nice Junction in Larissa.

The specific vehicle was being sought as it had been stolen today from the area of ​​Galatsi, Attica, and therefore the police issued a stop sign so that a relevant check could be carried out.

In order to escape, the driver developed further speed, exited the National Road and moved onto the provincial road towards Moschohori, at the entrance of which he lost control of the vehicle, hit a house wall and stopped.

He then got out of the vehicle and ran away, however one of the police officers, under circumstances that are being investigated, used a weapon resulting in the injury of the person in the ribs.

An ambulance was called to the scene, but despite resuscitation efforts, the person died.
