In recent years, Tinos has dynamically entered the tourist map with the president of the island’s hoteliers, Stelios Malliaris, remarking to APE-MPE that there is also an extension of the tourist season, beyond the two months of July and August, when tourist traffic peaks. His ambition is to further extend the season beyond September and October, as Tinos says it has all the foundations for such a development.

The island’s municipal authority aims to establish the island as a tourist destination that will be a key stop for lovers of alternative forms of tourism, highlighting among other things its hiking routes.

Through a hiking network that exceeds 150 kilometers, the visitor will discover an authentic and at the same time unexplored island of the Cyclades, which is welcoming and impressive in all seasons of the year.

Under the umbrella of the communication platform, “MonopaTinos” implemented by the municipality, all the cultural wealth of the island unfolds on the marked paths of the island. “Tinos can play a leading role in walking tourism and attract visitors from all over the world. Something that of course is happening now, as Manthos Prelorenzo / organizer of Tinos Outdoor Activities explains to APE-MPE. Manthos was our guide in one of the wonderful routes presented by the municipality in a recent event. Starting from the village of Tarabados, which is distinguished by its wonderful pigeon lofts, we ended up after about 3 hours in Komi, a wonderful village of the island in order to experience the artichoke festival with the locals. In the meantime the The Mayor of Tinos, Yiannis Siotos, expressed his intention to immediately proceed to further discussions with agencies for support, development and finding financial tools with the aim of creating an integrated tourist product of alternative tourism.

During the route, the history of the Cycladic island essentially unfolded. Tinos, the “Muse of the Aegean” was once again a source of inspiration offering the participants the opportunity to capture with their lens the incomparable natural beauty, the villages, the open-air marble works, the dovecotes, the exhibits of the unique Ursuline Museum but and the unique way Tinians thank the earth for its bounty and celebrate.

Manthos Prelorenzo and Angelos Delatolas from the municipality of Tinos, were born in Tinos, studied and worked in Athens but returned to their place of origin. Despite the difficulties they had to face, they did not prevent them from operating professionally on the island. Tinos should keep its children on the island, they note. Both of them aspire to be a tangible example for the new children of the island, especially in how to keep their love for the island burning.

As for the island’s paths, as pointed out, some are circular, while others follow along the coast leading hikers to archaeological monuments, monasteries, folklore museums, a Venetian castle, dozens of dovecotes and landscapes with eerie, smooth, spherical rocks . In any case, the prospective visitor who loves hiking can stay a week in Tinos, following a different path every day.

The actions of “MonopaTinos” will continue with an open photo exhibition on the theme of the Tinian Paths, while their cleaning and maintenance continues at an intensive pace so that they are ready to welcome hikers in the autumn season.
