A meeting was held today (10/7) at Ministry of Environment & Energy, under the responsible Minister, Mr. Thodoros Skylakakis and the Deputy Minister, Mrs. Alexandra Sdoukou, with the participation of RAAEY, ADMIE, DEDDIE and PPC. The topic of the meeting was the adequacy of the electrical system, which is to be tested in the coming days by the prolonged heat wave.

The emergency meeting discussed the necessary initiatives, which must be taken by all the parties involved, in order to ensure the adequacy of the electrical system and to determine measures to deal with extraordinary and unexpected events.

Specifically, during the meeting the following were mentioned:
• Loads during hot days are estimated to be covered without problem.
• During the day, new Photovoltaic Stations and RES, added in recent years, will contribute more than 3 GW of electrical power to the system. During the night, two new thermal units, which recently entered trial operation, will be at the disposal of the power generation potential (Ptolemaida 5, Agios Nikolaos).
• The water sufficiency in the hydroelectric plants is also judged to be satisfactory.
• Since no imports are expected on those days, domestic production capacity is sufficient to meet demand.

The judicious use of electrical devices during the evening peak hours of 20:00-22:00 will contribute decisively to saving energy and avoiding any power supply problems, ensuring the health, safety and better service of all citizens.

In addition to the above, the Ministry of Environment and Energy advises citizens to transfer, as far as possible, the consumption of electricity from energy-intensive devices, during the hours of 14:00-18:00, when the production of electricity from Photovoltaics peaks Stations and the load on the electrical system due to demand is less.
