An inter-ministerial meeting for the preparation of all competent bodies in view of the arrival of the “Kleon” heat wave is being convened today at 11 am by the leadership of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.

The meeting will be attended by the Deputy Minister of the Interior Thodoris Livanios, the Minister of State Akis Skertsos, the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Thanasis Kontogeorgis, as well as the Secretary Generals of Public Health Ioannis Kotsiopoulos and Social Solidarity Eleni Gioti and the General Director of the Health Directorate of the Ministry of Labor Konstantinos Agrapidas.

The meeting will also be attended by the President of ENPE, Regional Governor of Central Macedonia Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the President of KEDE Lazaros Kyrizoglou, the Regional Governor of Attica Giorgos Patoulis, the Mayor of Athens Kostas Bakoyannis, the CEO of DEDDIE Anastasios Manos, the President & CEO of ADMIE Manos Manousakis, the Commander of the EMY Brigadier General Barsakis Spyridon, the President of EKAV KEPY Nikos Papaevstathiou and the President of the Hellenic Red Cross Antonios Avgerinos.

The meeting was announced by the Minister of Climate Crisis, Vassilis Kikilias, speaking to SKAI yesterday morning, while the government representative, Pavlos Marinakis, confirmed it in yesterday’s briefing.

Meanwhile, a circular regarding the upcoming “heat wave” has been issued by the Ministry of Health, while the Ministry of Labor announced measures for the protection of workers.

Recommendations of the GPPP in view of the heat

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection addresses recommendations to citizens to be particularly careful, taking measures to protect themselves from risks arising from the prevalence of high temperatures, in view of the heat wave that will prevail in the country from Wednesday, July 12 .

In areas where high temperatures are expected to prevail, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) draws attention to people belonging to vulnerable groups to be especially careful in the coming days, in order to avoid health problems, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which may be caused by the high temperatures that will prevail.

In particular, according to the guidelines for self-protection against high temperatures, citizens are advised to:

Stay in cool and shady places away from overcrowding, use air conditioners or fans and avoid heavy physical work in places with high temperature, apnea and high humidity.

Avoid sunbathing, as well as walking or running under the sun and wear a hat, sunglasses and light-colored clothing made of fabric that allows the skin to ventilate and facilitates the evaporation of sweat, avoiding synthetic fabrics.

Consume light meals with fruits and vegetables, limiting fats and the amount of food.

Drink plenty of water and fruit juices, avoiding alcoholic beverages.

Special care is recommended for babies and young children, as well as the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases to protect them from high temperatures.

At the same time, the GPP has informed the competent state agencies involved in the service, as well as the regions and municipalities of the country, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness, in order to immediately deal with the effects of the prevalence of high temperatures.

The Ministry of Culture also announced measureswhile an extraordinary meeting was also held at Ministry of Environment and Energy for the adequacy of the system due to load from the use of air conditioners.

The gradual increase in temperature is expected to start from Wednesday, while it is expected to be maintained until the beginning of next week, with the mercury expected to “climb” in places up to 43 degrees
