A 42-year-old Russian who was arrested in execution of an international warrant for attempting to sell 2.79 grams of heroin 17 years ago is expected to appeal to the Areopagus.
The Council of Appeals of Thessaloniki ruled in favor of his extradition to Russia, but he himself will appeal the decision to the country’s highest court.
His extradition is requested byRussian prosecution authoritiess in order to serve an 8-year prison sentence, which was imposed on him – in absentia – in 2008. The alleged attempt to sell the drug, according to Russian prosecution documents, took place in 2006, in the city of Yanaul.
The 42-year-old he was arrested last May in Evosmos Thessalonikibased on an international warrant. He himself, as he states, lives in Greece, having married a Greek woman, while they also have a 7-year-old daughter. Addressing the judges of the Council, he asked not to extradite him to Russia.
