The warmest and most unchanged (temperatures remained unchanged during the afternoon hours) day of this summer was recorded by Up Stories in collaboration with the Meteo unit of the National Observatory of Athens and the technological support of Drone House.

Among the most interesting finds was the literally burning bicyclist in Omonia Square, with the vehicle showing a temperature of 104 degrees Celsius, when the average pavement temperature remained at 60° on average for almost 8 hours during the day.

The guard posts at the monument to the Unknown Soldier in Syntagma, which at 7 pm recorded a temperature of 70 degrees Celsius, as well as the thirst for greenery and fountains that the city of Athens presents. Where there were trees, fountains and pools around them, a microclimate was created 15 degrees Celsius lower than the average temperature of the city.

Very high fire danger for today Saturday – The “orange” areas

A very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is predicted for today, Saturday, July 15, 2023, according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr), for the following areas: Attica Region Central Greece Region (Boeotia Region, Evia Region) Peloponnese Region (Corinthia Region, Argolis Region) South Aegean Region (Rhodes Region) North Aegean Region (Chios Region, Samos Region, Ikaria Region)

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection has informed the competent state agencies involved in the official service, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above regions, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness in order to face any fire incidents immediately.

At the same time, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection recommends that citizens be especially careful and avoid actions in the open air that can cause a fire by negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues, the use of machines that cause sparks such as circular saws, welding devices , the use of outdoor grills, the smoking of bees, the throwing of lit cigarettes, etc.

Also, it is reminded that during the fire protection season burning of fields is prohibited. In the event of a fire, citizens are requested to immediately notify the Fire Service at the number 199.
