The chief musician of the Thessaloniki State Orchestra passed away at the age of 75, as the Orchestra announced in a post on social networks.
Karolos Trikolidis was born in 1947 in Bad Auschwitz, Austria to an Austrian mother and a Greek father. He studied composition, violin, percussion and orchestra conducting with Hans Swarovski and Miltiadis Karydis at the Vienna and Salzburg Higher Schools of Music (Mozartheum). Attended seminars with the chief musicians Franco Ferrara, Pierre Boulez, Bruno Maderna, Herbert von Karajan.
He began his career as an assistant to Adrian Bullt and Giuseppe Patane. He won first prizes in competitions for chief musicians in Besançon (1970), Florence (1971), Budapest (1977). He was the first chief musician in lyric theaters of Germany and Hungary (1973-80) and the permanent chief musician of the French National Ballet “Roland Petty” (1979-84).
He held the position of permanent chief musician of K.O.TH. from 1973 to 2008, while she took over the helm from the position of Artistic Director of K.O.TH. three times, in the years 1981-1982, 1992, 2000-2001.
