Copernicus/Emergency Management Service – Mapping has been activated of the European Union from the Emergency Planning and Response Directorate of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, for the regions of Eastern Attica, Western Attica-Boiotia and Corinthia (Loutraki), which have been affected by the forest fires that occurred yesterday.

In particular, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, following the order of the general secretary of Civil Protection, the Directorate of Planning and Emergency Response of the general secretariat of Civil Protection, as the National Contact Point, activated its Copernicus/Emergency Management Service – Mapping European Union, as National Contact Point.

The purpose of the activation is the production of cartographic products and data for the regions of Eastern Attica, Western Attica-Boiotia and Corinth (Loutraki), which were affected by forest fires that occurred on Monday, July 17, 2023, to assist the work of the agencies involved in the response emergencies and in managing the consequences of the phenomenon.

The requests have been accepted by the European Union (activation codes EMSR672, EMSR673 and EMSR674) and the availability of a series of cartographic data and products resulting from the analysis of satellite images is expected immediately.

The data and maps of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service/Mapping service will be immediately made available by the Planning and Emergency Management Directorate of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection to all involved bodies free of charge for the management of their project.
