National Baccalaureate with Subject Bank and integrated National Examinations in four courses are, according to information from “K”the main axis of the Ministry of Education on which the plan for the national baccalaureate will be “built”.

Wanted is the existence of political consensusand for that matter the messages from the two major opposition parties so far are positive.

Particularly, the institution of a national baccalaureate is considered to contribute to the upgrading of the high school, which for decades has become a vestibule of higher education. And this is because the students from the 2nd Lyceum, or even earlier, focus on their preparation in the 4 subjects in which they will be examined in the All-Hellenic Examinations. In this way, high school loses its educational goal, while teenagers are deprived of valuable “pedagogical time” for two years.

Therefore, the central purpose of the national baccalaureate, as planned by the staff of the Ministry of Education, is for students to focus on more subjectsthrough curricula and teaching methods that will utilize technology.

On the other hand, as mentioned in “K” high-ranking official of the Ministry of Education, “there will be no national baccalaureate without respect for the achievements of the National Examinations”. The acquis of today’s Panhellenic Courts is their immutability. So, it is being studied in the national baccalaureate to include the All-Hellenic Examinations and students will be examined in a certain number of subjects using the Graded Difficulty Subject Bank.

The Subject Bank will be maintained, despite the reactions of OLME and OIELEas it is considered a useful tool for the educational process, as is also reflected in the External Evaluation Report of the Subject Bank, made on behalf of the Institute of Educational Policy by a team of the University of the Aegean.

The main aim is for students to focus on more teaching subjects – The Subject Bank remains.

To give incentives to teachersin order to increase the degree of their participation in the process of assigning and evaluating issues, so as to increase the degree of acceptance of the Bank on the one hand and the quantity and quality of the issues on the other hand.

To support the participation of teachers in the assessment of the Bank’s issues.

To strengthen the more objective weighting of the degree of difficulty of the subjectsso that they are not disproportionately difficult or easy for the usual level of students.

Teachers should be given the opportunity to evaluate all subjects of their specialty in terms of their degree of difficulty.

To consider the possibility of re-evaluation of the issues that had a low acceptance rate for selection in previous draws.

The leadership of the Ministry of Education will seek political consensus for the institutionalization of the national baccalaureatewhich is necessary, since since the post-political revolution there have been about 40 significant changes in the examination system for HEIs, troubling students, parents and teachers. The messages are positive, as PASOK has programmatically referred to the establishment of a national high school diploma, while Alexis Tsipras also spoke positively in his television interview. There will of course be a dialogue so that the parties can state their positions.
