In the evacuation of two hotel units, Lindian Village and Rodos Village for preventive reasons, located in the Kiottari area of Rhodes, the local services proceeded due to the large fire that is raging uncontrollably on the island for the fifth consecutive day.
The customers of the two hotels were transported by 30 tourist buses to a safe area of the island.
An earlier message from 112 alerted residents to evacuate the community Asclepius and the area Kiotariou heading towards the Gennadi area, while a previous message called on residents to evacuate the villages of Lardo and Pylona.
The battle to extinguish the fire in Rhodes continues in the area of Laermos and Lardos, where it is raging uncontrollably.
Also, because of the fire in several areas of the island the electricity has been interrupted.
The situation is considered particularly serious due to the winds blowing in the area which make the work of firefighting difficult.
The press representative of the Fire Department, deputy fire chief Yiannis Artopioos, said in a briefing that the fire in Rhodes is the most difficult that the Fire Department is facing, as the active front is raging in the areas of Lardos, Laerma, Kiotari and there are 173 firefighters, 10 groups of pedestrians, 35 vehicles, 5 helicopters, 3 aircraft and 31 operating there.
