The slight drop in the temperature on Monday was not able to relieve the Greeks, as again in places heatwave conditions prevailed.

According to the network of automatic weather stations of the National Observatory of Athens / Meteo.gr, and as shown in Figure 1, 32 weather stations recorded maximums above 40 degrees, while in 4 of them the maximum exceeded 42 degrees. The absolute maximum temperature was recorded in Sparta and was equal to 42.4 degrees Celsius.

In addition, despite the slight decrease in temperature, intense discomfort and high values ​​of sensible temperature (Heat index) prevailed in areas with high temperature combined with high relative humidity. More specifically, in Preveza at noon on Monday, a sensible temperature of 54.1 degrees Celsius was recorded, while in the Isthmus of Corinth the sensible temperature reached 50.4 degrees Celsius (see Figure 2).

Heatwave with temperatures up to 45 degrees on Tuesday

On Tuesday, July 25, according to the weather forecast from meteo, sunshine is expected throughout the country with hot conditions in places. During the warm hours of the day, clouds will develop in the continental areas with the possibility of local showers in the northeastern parts. The risk of occurrence and spread of forest fires will be high and even very high.

The temperature will vary in Western Macedonia from 18 to 39 degrees, in the rest of Northern Greece from 20 to 39-41, in Epirus from 23 to 40-42 degrees, in Thessaly from 21 to 42-43 and locally 44-45 degreesin the rest of the mainland from 25 to 40-42 and possibly locally 43 degrees, in the Ionian islands from 24 to 38-39 degrees, in the Aegean islands and in Crete from 22 to 36-37 degrees, while in the Eastern Aegean islands and in the Dodecanese and in South Crete the maximums will locally reach 39-41 degrees Celsius.

The winds will blow in the North Aegean south-south-east with intensities up to 4 Beaufort and in the South Aegean north-north-west with intensities 5-6 Beaufort. In the Ionian the winds will blow from southern directions with intensities up to 4 Beaufort and locally in Corfu 5 Beaufort.

In Attica we are waiting for sunshine. Winds will blow from south directions with intensities up to 3 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 29 to 38-40 degrees.

In Thessaloniki we expect sunshine with local clouds after noon. Winds will blow from southeast directions with intensities of 3-4 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 27 to 37-38 degrees.
