The Copernicus/Emergency Management Service – Mapping of the European Union was reactivated by the Planning and Emergency Response Directorate of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, as a national point of contact, following the order of the General Secretary of Civil Protection.

The purpose of the activation is the production of cartographic products and data for areas of the Municipality of Aegialia of the Regional Unity of Achaia, the island of Corfu and the Municipality of Karystos of the Regional Unity of Evia, which were affected by forest fires that occurred on Sunday, July 23, 2023, to assist the work of the agencies involved in dealing with emergencies and managing the consequences of the phenomenon.

The requests have been accepted by the European Union (activation codes (EMSR676, EMSR677 and EMSR678) and the availability of a series of cartographic data and products resulting from the analysis of satellite images is expected soon.

The data and maps of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service/Mapping Service will be made available directly by the Planning and Emergency Response Directorate of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection to all involved bodies free of charge for the management of their project.
