Lawsuit by strangers for deliberate arson of the forests of Rhodes is going to be submitted by the mayor of the island, Antonis Kambourakis. The lawsuit will be submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court, in cooperation with an Athens law firm, and will concern the following offenses:

  • Intentional arson, from which a danger to humans may arise and significant damage was caused to public utility facilities (a. 264 par. 1b, c of the Civil Code).
  • Deliberate arson in forests, from which a danger to humans may arise and significant damage to public utility facilities was caused or the fire spread over a large area or resulted in serious or widespread pollution or degradation or serious or widespread ecological and environmental disturbance or destruction (a. 265 par. 1b, c of the Civil Code)
  • The attempted homicide (by direct or possible intent) in series against the permanent residents of Rhodes and those temporarily residing on the island in any capacity (seasonal workers, tourists, guests in accommodations, etc.) in the areas affected by the fires (art. 42 par. 1, 299 par. 1 of the Civil Code).

The specific offenses took place from 18/07/2023 until today, when the fire is raging on the island of Rhodes.
