The beautiful swans, white as the snow that are expected in the next hours on the island, are located in Aliki Naxos (next to the airport), enchant with their beauty and are an “oasis” in these special and difficult days due to the pandemic and the snow.
The pair of swans (Cygnus olor) is currently hosted in Aliki next to the airport, along with many other species of migratory birds.
“Rare for Naxos, as well as impressive, this appearance shows once again the importance of the Wildlife Refuge in Naxos, which unfortunately is not protected as it should and as defined by law” notes the Association “Wildlife Protection” of Naxos which is the “guardian angel” of wildlife on the island.
“The authorities, but also ourselves, must pay special attention to this jewel of the island, unique in the South Aegean and protect it from man-made illegal actions that threaten these rare visitors and Aliki itself. It is in the hands of all of us the protection of this precious wetland and its inhabitants “, he adds.
