The police in Athens are on full alert ahead of tonight’s PAO-Marseille football match on Alexandra Avenue, for fear of incidents following the bloody events in New Philadelphia.
In an emergency meeting held at noon at the headquarters, it was decided to implement particularly enhanced measures, in order to prevent any retaliation by AEK fans for the murder of the 29-year-old fan of the team, Michalis Katsouri, which occurred during the attack by the Dinamo hooligans Zagreb with Greek fans of PAO.
The measures include strict surveillance of fan links, stations and other points where fans may move and congregate, while traffic around the stadium will be closed early and no one will be allowed to approach without a ticket.
For the implementation of the measures, approximately 1,000 police officers are available from GADA, of which 450 will be static forces of the Traffic and other services around the stadium, while motorcycle patrols will be carried out by the Security, the DRASI and DIAS Teams and there will be a lookout from OPKE and MAT groups if they need to intervene.
Aerial, drone and police helicopters also participate in site surveillance.
