The cycle of apologies for all the accused has been completed for the sad events in New Philadelphia, which cost the life of 29-year-old Michalis Katsouris, leaving a bitter taste of the inefficiency of the state apparatus.

The three investigators who had undertaken the heavy task of evaluating the data of the tragedy and the assessment of the criminal liability of those involved ended up in cumulative prison terms, given that all the accused, in addition to other serious crimes, also faced that of the criminal organization.

The performance by the judicial authorities of the specific category, is prosecuted as a felonywas the basis on which they stepped for the numerous detentions, while the perpetrator of the brutal murder of Michalis Katsouris has not yet been identified.

All of the 105 defendants, of which one is still in hospital under guard, apologized and in fact for the one who is facing health problems, the investigator went to the hospital, receiving an apology on the spot, while then a decision was made to pre-trial detention.

A total of 105 defendants were remanded in custodymost of them Croatian, but also two Greeks and one of Albanian origin, but born here.

All the accused during the three days of their apologies, some less and some more, kept the same defense line, denying their participation, as it is described in the heavy indictment.

The investigating authorities, three investigators and two prosecutors, evaluated the apologies, the evidence of the case file, the findings from the removal of telephone privacy, cameras in the area and also testimonies, unanimously judging that all were remand.

The fact of pre-trial detention of the accused caused reactions expressed at a high political level by the President of Croatia, to which both government officials replied that the Greek judiciary is independent, as well as the Union of Judges and Prosecutors, which issued a relevant statement.

As for the continuation of the investigations focused on the identification of the perpetrator who stabbed the unfortunate Katsouri, the investigations are in full progress with all the data on the table, as findings are evaluated from the mobile phones, the download of genetic material, the recordings from area cameras and eyewitness accounts.

The restrained optimism that exists in the competent authorities to identify the perpetrator is based on the fact that the findings offer possibilities in the investigation and their utilization will ultimately have a positive outcome.
