The decision to ban the presence of Panathinaikos fans in the rematch with Marseille for the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League was taken by the French government.
After her final decision UEFA not to allow the movement of fans to these two European “battles” of the “greens” with the club of Marthelino, France also took its own measures.
Specifically, three days before the big game at “Velodrome” which will determine the qualification to the playoffs of the top interclub competition, the Ministry of Interior of France with a legislative act prohibited the presence of Panathinaikos fans throughout Marseille. In fact, the said decision was published in the government newspaper!
“The individual or collective movement, by any means, of any person claiming to be or behaving as a fan of Panathinaikos is prohibited between the French road networks, railways, ports and airport border points, on the one hand, and the community of Marseille”, refers characteristically, thus wanting to avoid any incidents which could be done in the streets of the city by the fans of the two teams.
For this reason, the Ministry of the Interior added that: “Real and serious risk of clashes between fans of the two teams. The movements of Panathinaikos are usually a source of disturbance of public order, due to the violent behavior of some fans of this team. Such attitudes also exist from some Marseille fans, who often become violent”.
