The new regulation for the 2023-2024 hunting season was signed by the Minister of the Environment, Theodoros Skylakakis, in which the main difference is the provision to allow the hunting of wild boar for the first time from August 20, the start date of the hunting year, while until last year the hunting of this species started on September 15.
This change was decided after the large increase in the number of wild boars in recent months.
At the same time, the new regulation also extends, for the first time, the hunting for aquatic animals by ten days – from January 31 to February 10, while the hunting of the wild rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) is exceptionally allowed until March 10, 2024.
It is also reminded that hunting is prohibited in permanent wildlife refuges, game farms and National Forest cores. As, also, it is forbidden to hunt the woodcock (Scolopax rusticola) in the karteri, in the morning and in the evening, etc.
The ministerial decision lists the 36 species that are allowed to be hunted, which fall into three main categories: Mammals – Arboreal birds, terrestrial birds, etc., – Aquatic and waterfowl birds.
